Our Charitable Giving

2010 Grant Applications

Given the increasing number of requests for grants and the unfortunate fact of life that resources are limited, the St. Patrick’s Society Grants Committees are asking for your cooperation by adhering to the guidelines set forth in the attached application form.

Adhering to the strict deadlines being imposed will significantly help the Committees properly sort out the various requests and verify information that may be missing in the application before sitting down to allocate funds to the various and very worthwhile recipients.

It has happened in the past that very worthwhile and necessary requests have come to our attention after the Committees have drafted its final list for submission.
A change of procedures will enable all eligible parties to submit their request with the full knowledge that they will be considered on their merits.

Thank you for adhering to this format.

Please ensure that you return the completed application form along with all supporting documents, BY MAIL, to the Society Office no later than Friday, October 15th, 2010.

Cultural Committee

St. Patrick’s Society service to the community is guided by the intent of its Founders:   “To unite the members of our community, to promote their best interests and those of our society at large, and to promote charitable, educational, cultural and other purposes.” [By-Laws of the Society]

The Cultural Committee of the Society takes as its primary purpose its role of enabling the cultural growth of our Irish community and, in doing so, it creates those opportunities which “unite the members of our community” to the pleasure and enjoyment of all.  Every year we receive funding requests from over twenty distinct Irish organizations with interests as varied as dance, literature, sport, cinema, music, language, and theatre; given the availability of funds we do our utmost to respond as generously as possible to each of these applicant groups.  While supporting the established and ongoing activities of the community, the Cultural Committee also welcomes new proposals that will continue to honour our primary purpose: the support and unity of our community.

Charitable Committee

The charitable grants subcommittee of the grants committee of St. Patrick's Society of Montreal advises the Society with respect to the disbursement of funds by the Society to not-for-profit organizations other than those organizations which have a primarily cultural or educational mission.

Eligible charitable organizations which would like to request a grant from the Society should submit a written request addressed to the Society.  Each such request should describe in reasonable detail the nature and objective of the organization which would benefit from the requested grant and the specific purpose for which granted funds would be used and should include a copy of the organization's most recent financial statements, if any.  The members of the charitable grants subcommittee will review and consider each such written request.  The subcommittee will consider requests within the guidelines set out by the board of directors of the Society from time to time, which guidelines typically include a review of the requesting organization's role in the community and its contribution to and impact on Irish Montrealers.  Although grants are made by the Society to a number of charitable organizations each year, there is no guarantee that each organization that requests funds will receive a grant and that each grant will be for the full amount that was requested.
